In 2016 the following activities were held to celebrate International Clinical Trials Day.
The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science (DoIIS) launched enhancements to the AustralianClinicalTrials.gov.au website including the ability to subscribe, save searches and receive alerts when new trials are registered. NHMRC and DoIIS also launched video clips from clinical trials participants and researchers talking about their experience of clinical trials on AustralianClinicalTrials.gov.au.
The Australian Clinical Trials Alliance (ACTA) together with Medicines Australia, AusBiotech and Research Australia held a Clinical Trials Breakfast and presented the inaugural ACTA Trial of the Year award. Further information.
Access CR launched the #WhyClinicalTrialsMatter social media campaign in Australia.
The Andrew Love Cancer Centre at Barwon Health held a randomised controlled trial to see if you have to sacrifice taste for calories morning tea! Further information.
Cancer Council Victoria highlighted the importance of clinical trials and acknowledged the contribution of the countless medical staff and patients who further advances in cancer treatment and care by promoting International Clinical Trials Day on social media.
The Centre for Eye Research held a poster and hand-out session at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. Further information.
Chris OBrien Lifehouse celebrated by using social media and digital screens throughout Lifehouse to let patients know the strength of their clinical trials activity.
Food for Life celebrated International Clinical Trials Day by offering tours of their clinical trial and laboratory facilities at La Trobe University, Bundoora. Further information.
Peninsula Health had an information stand in the main foyer of the Frankston Hospital.
The Ingham Institute in the South Western Sydney Local Health District had an information stand located at the main entrance of Liverpool hospital. Further information.
The Kolling Research Office in the Northern Sydney Local Health District had an information booth in the main foyer of Royal North Shore Hospital during the morning and held a seminar outlining clinical trial activity in the North Shore Local Health District along with an example investigator-initiated clinical trial presented by the Intensive Care Unit. Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre, in conjunction with Austin Health, hosted Dr Hugo Stephenson, Executive Chairman of DrugDev Innovation lab discussing ‘Technology and its Future in Research’. Further information (PDF, 44KB)
Novartis released a media release highlighting the essential contribution of researchers and patient volunteers in finding safe and effective treatments for disease through clinical trials. Further information (PDF, 160KB)

The Cancer Care Services Department at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital held a sausage sizzle at the entrance to the Joyce Tweddell Building. Further Information (PDF, 349KB)
Melbourne Health celebrated International Clinical Trials Day on social media and had an information stand in the main foyer of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Library.
Sydney Local Health District celebrated International Clinical Trials Day by holding a Clinical Trials Showcase in the RPA Hospital main entrance foyer.Further information and Registration
TRI attempted to demystify clinical trials and provide information as to what to expect when participating in a trial. Further Information.
Wesley Medical Research (WMR) celebrated International Clinical Trials Day by providing free coffee and cake and raising awareness of the presence and work of WMR within the Wesley Hospital.
